New Android phone to hold me over

I finally have a new phone. Its not the one that I want (Xperia Play), but at least its better then my current phone, the iPhone. Now, that’s not to knock the iPhone, it has served me well for the last three years! But throughout its life, I have always had a jailbroken phone, and when I accidentally bricked it, I then proceeded to accidentally restore it, but to the newest version which you can’t jailbreak… Ever since then, I realized how weak the iPhone was when you had to use it the way Apple wants you to use it. For the regulars, I’m sure its fine, but for a tech junkie like me, I craved something much more customizable and fun to use. But it wasn’t only that — for the last 3 months, I haven’t been able to maintain a call for longer then 5 minutes without the call breaking up, and even worse, for the last three weeks, if I ever lost reception, I needed to restart the phone in order to get any reception back.

I’m using my dads old Android Apollo phone to hold me over for the time being, paid $20 on Ebay to get an unlock code ($50 to unlock through Telus)…

My new Macbook Air

After months of waiting, I finally got my Macbook Air. My trusty Macbook Pro died, and I had been eagerly awaiting the release of the new Macbook Pros, as I figured their was no point buying old hardware when the new stuff was just around the corner. So I waited and waited… I was looking to get the Macbook Pro 13″, but I was only going to get it if the screen resolution got a bump like the 13″ Air did. I thought it was expected, turns out it wasn’t… So my only options were the Air or 15″ Pro, and I wasn’t exactly looking to spend +$2000..

I ended up buying a Macbook Air used on Craigslist for $1600 for the 2.13ghz, 256GB SSD, 4GB RAM configuration with the external SuperDrive and USB-Ethernet adapter, which is worth $2100 after student discount and tax. Nice savings of $500, and its in perfect condition! The guy who I bought it from actually works at the Apple store in downtown Vancouver.

Light as a feather

The laptop is great so far. SSD makes everything lightning quick — you don’t realize how much of a bottleneck your hard drive is until you use one of these things. I’m VERY satisfied.

Gaming is great as well, I can play Starcraft on Medium settings, which is good enough. If I really want to play, I can play on my desktop on Ultra settings! But I don’t game much on the go anyways, so medium is more then enough.

Amazingly Thin

One of the best features of this laptop is really how light and thin it is! I guess thats where the word “Air” comes from…Durr. So, a lot of people might think that a laptop being light is not something they need, and I used to think the exact same way. I carried my 15″ Macbook Pro around Europe, whats the big deal?! But then I borrowed my bosses Air for two weeks, and it was great. You throw the Macbook in and you barely feel it in your bag. Great for people who are constantly on the go. If your laptop is plopped on a desk most of the time, then maybe its not such a huge benefit. I love it though, exactly what I needed.

New laptop next to his fallen comrad

Anyways, wasn’t planning on doing too much of a review. Just came to show off =D. Macbook Air — Highly recommended!
